Early life of Swami Dayanand Saraswati
Swami Dayanand Saraswati was born in 1824 in Tankara, Gujarat. His name in childhood was Moolshankar Tiwari. From an early age, he began to search for spiritual truth. Questioning the conservative practices, superstitions and religious hypocrisies prevalent in the society, he deeply studied the Vedas and other religious texts.
Establishment of Arya Samaj
Swami Dayanand Saraswati founded Arya Samaj in 1875 with the aim of returning to the Vedas and social reform. Arya Samaj advocated important social reforms such as women’s education, abolition of child marriage and fighting against the caste system.
